Beautiful morning for a nice long walkie. And I was trudging along, minding my own business, when I came upon some tracks that gave me pause…
That’s either a wolf or the biggest dog I’ve seen since Little Bear died. Check this out for perspective…
My knife blade is 3″, and claw to pad this guy’s paws are a little bigger than that. I would not want to meet him in a dark desert unless I knew he was a friend of mine. Super fresh, too. Like, this morning just before I got there.
Hmmmm . . . . . Worrisome indeed. Might be the elusive Mogollon Monster. You’ll need a bigger gun.
You could be right about the tracks being from a wolf, Joel…

Yeah, I know. They were released quite a bit north of here and took a long time to wander into the Gulch, but we finally got confirmed sightings about a year and a half ago. Nothing since then, but if there was a resident dog of that size around here I’d probably know about it.
Never see a wolf unless he wants you too. Brother shot one up in Canada a few years back. They use bait to draw them in up there.
Same with coyotes, mostly. I see them when I’m in the Jeep, never on foot.
Just hope it is not of the kind that likes to chase bicycles.
Do you taste good Mr Joel? A wolf friend wanted to know….. heh
Well, that ought to take care of your mouse problem. Julia
I’d be very tempted to take the Mossberg along on walkies . . . along with the .44.
