This newish game camera takes lousy night pics. Also, this coyote has become so bold as to leave me piles practically next to the cabin. Never used to happen, don’t have any idea how to deal with it since it’s virtually certain it would never happen with me outdoors. Not really doing any harm but I find it rude and take it personally. Plus, someday I might decide to raise poultry again and I like the coyotes polite.

Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

IIRC, Mr. Joel took a scene from the movie “Never Cry Wolf” wherein our intrepid researcher marked his territory in the canid manner. Or do I disremember? Inquiring minds wanna know.
Yeah, I did that and continue to do it. Not having the desired effect with this critter.
Is trapping a possible solution?

Looks like he’s carrying a glowstick – should be easy to spot… Yeah, I know it’s the camera. But seriously, a motion sensor might be helpful to know when it’s about.

You have any gun slits in the side of your cabin? A 44 across his bow would garner some respect.
“You have any gun slits in the side of your cabin? A 44 across his bow would garner some respect.”
A 44 in the chest would make the respect issue moot, and the carcass left to rot far enough from the cabin to avoid the smell but near enough for the carcass to be associated with it would provide a “distributed respect effect” among the other coyotes, especially if something with your scent was mingled with the remains.
If you can get some more pics, a series would tell you if it’s showing up at approximately the same time of night, and, maybe, what the routine path of approach is. From that intelligence a counter plan could be developed. I suspect, however, that you may be somewhat deficient in 200–300 meter armament more suitable for the task.
Start taking a leak out where it’s showing up.

I’m betting you have a 22 rifle. That’s more than strong enough for a clean kill out to 50 yards with regular high velocity. I pick that range because point of aim/impact are close enough. CCI, Aguila and Winchester all make 1435 to 1460ish FPS, 40gr, hollow point ammo in 22 long rifle. That stuff will extend your range to 75 yards. It costs $10-15 per 100 round box. Once sighted in you won’t go though it very fast, practice with regular ammo. I once shot a coyote looking at (sizing up?) my chicken coop. I shot it through the screen door so I wouldn’t scare it away. Dropped like a sack of beans, base of head shot. Good luck.
