I have just learned of the untimely destruction of a priceless 1957 De Havilland DHC-3T, in the wilds of Alaska. Excuse me…I just can’t continue right now. Perhaps I can come back later. I’m sorry…
Oh, there were some survivors. You know, people. Other than the famous guy who’s not a surviver. Some of the people died, too. But oh, that beautiful seaplane! *choke*
That gave me a grin. And a tear. For the plane…
Joel, The departed aircraft was a turbine model, converted from the original radial engine configuration. More like the pictured at the top right of this page.

It always makes me sad when a fine old plane meets an unfortunate end.
Loss of the aircraft was a tragedy, but we know one thing.
That thug Stevens won’t be pissing that pilot off again.
Ummm…. Did you notice the tail letters?
Can’t say I did, till you pointed them out.
Should I block them out or something? I think we’re all adults.
Stevens > “The internet is a series of tubes”. Lovely that this guy sat on the commerce committee attempting to regulate something that he knew dick about.
Waste of a good airplane for sure.

Ah the venerable old Otter. This aircraft is my all time favourite airplane having flown on several while in the Canadian Forces back in the seventies.
One of my fondest memories was taking a ride on a float equipped Otter to a lake 50 miles north of the base I was stationed at for some “training.” The pilot brought some fishing gear along and we sat all afternoon on the floats, fishing. I didn’t have a fishing license at the time and I asked the pilot about the Police. His reply sticks in my mind to this day. He said “Son, I have never seen a cop boat that could out run an aircraft.”
As for the waste of space who died in the crash… Meh.
At first I thought the tail numbers were photoshopped but they appear to be the real thing. The DHC-3-Otter is a heckuva good plane. Sorry to see one crash.
