Landlady came up this afternoon, and since the road is just miles of mud I met her at the gate. Rather to my surprise, since I wasn’t expecting anything but Big Brother’s monthly care package, there was a whole bunch of stuff. Some of it was…fun.
Laddie’s favorite brand of rawhide sticks, and a pair of light slip-on crampons I sure could have used a week ago. They’ll be getting a try in the morning.
From regular reader Waepnedmann came something truly unexpected…
🙂 I don’t have any specific idea what I’m going to do with it, but nobody ever said “If only I didn’t have so many magazines.” What does this hold, 50 rounds? 70? Ian would know at a glance but I’m going to have to open some boxes and find out for myself.
And somebody hit my Amazon wishlist…
Some eye ointment and a graphic novel I always kind of wanted to read but would never have actually bought. So timely, too, because I’m really jonesing for something not-heavy to read while stuck in the cabin.
I also wasn’t expecting anything from Terrapod…
Actually I’m not certain this is from Terrapod but it does look like something he’d do. (If it’s not, tell me who sent it and accept my apologies.) Nitrile gloves, cable ties, dog treats, peanut butter and some books, and then in a separate sealed box…
A spare cordless drill! This one is experienced, but he was thoughtful enough to include a brand new battery. Believe it or not I know exactly what I’m going to do with this. It won’t go unused.
And of course I’ve grown dependent on Big Brother for snackies. My diet was quite a lot more monotonous before he started this monthly tradition, and I always look forward to it.
Thank you very much, guys!
Care package reports are so much fun! And I’m glad that Landlady arrived safely.
Yep, I think these are always my favorite posts. It’s not only a delight to see what you receive on care package day, but it always makes me feel good about humanity — or at least about the humanity of great blog readers.
Yep, twas Terrapod with his slightly twisted sense of what is useful to a desert hermit 😉
As I continue to clean out 40 years of pack-rattin’ more surprises may yet show up.
Glad you have a use for that drill, it was kind of an orphan as all my other stuff is 18V and it has plenty of life yet.
Those Yak-Trax are awesome, I love the ones I have. I don’t pull them out very often, but there are a few days every year here in the Willamette Valley that the whole world is covered in freezing rain. Then they come in REAL handy.
75 rounds for when you have to provide the overwhelming firepower to break out of a coyote ambush while escorting your principle on a Corgi pee patrol.
Hello Joel, I’m a recent lurker who would like to join in the care package sending. Where to ship to may well be here in a sidebar somewhere, but I haven’t found it. So, where to ship to please? Thank you for the work it takes to produce your blog, I much enjoy it.
Ooops, duh bldrgrl! Just spotted the “Send Joel Stuff” tab on the top ribbon with its very clear directions for acquiring your ship to address. I will email you now.
