And another sigh. Spam again.

This is why I like canned meat…

Second Monday in a row the local food market’s meat reefer’s been broken down. I had my mouth set for some roast chicken, but it’s Spam again this week. Fortunately Big Brother restocked me.

They were also out of potatoes. Again. I happened to mutter “how does a food store run out of potatoes?” in the presence of an employee. I got a discourse on how each department has a weekly budget which somehow doesn’t permit the purchase of potatoes, I confess I wasn’t really listening. I dunno – I’m not an economist, but it just seems as if potatoes might be a logical product for a food store to sell all the time, not just for the few minutes after the potato shipment comes in.

You’d think that if you’re consistently running out of things to sell in your business that you might increase stock? So that maybe your customers will give you more money.

Do you have an incubator? Cause I could send you coturnix quail eggs. Much more efficient than chickens turning their feed into food for you. Start laying at seven to eight weeks and are ready for the smoker then also. They lay about 300 eggs a year – I hard boil them for four minutes and they’re perfect one bite snacks. I can send asap so let me k ow and also how many.

Sounds like a store with zero local competition.

Yeah, but I’ll bet they’re driving a lot of business to the Safeway about 35 miles away.

So how exactly are they staying in business. This has been going on for years now, hasn’t it?

Are they the local supply for drugs, or are they someone’s tax write-off?

You previously casted aspersions on the owners of the local businesses. Has it gotten any better?

    Inquiring minds want to know…

Andrew, they’re the only game in town. Also they got an Ace Hardware franchise and half the floorspace went to that, and it’s actually doing great as far as I can tell. It’s also pretty much a monopoly. Last year they sank a lot of money into a loooong row of coolers for packaged food, which is kept stocked though I have no opinion how well stocked, and they very recently got a liquor license and are selling beer, which the previous Mormon owners wouldn’t have. But for some reason the meat department continues to muddle on as before, with green meat in between the many cooler breakdowns.
