Anybody speak Latin?

I’m hoping to get a coat of stucco on The Secret Lair before winter, which means I need to order its sign. Every secret lair has a sign. Doesn’t yours? I’ve been carrying around this card from this company that makes sandstone signs, and I want one that says “The Ultimate Answer to Kings.” In Latin. Gonna plant it in the stucco.

Trouble is, I don’t speak Latin. The closest I’ve seen, as far as I know, is “Ultimum Responsum Regibus.” But like I said I don’t speak the language, so I can’t vouch for the accuracy.

Anybody know?

  1. It would seem to me that only the middle word on your cannon inscription would change. Tried any web-based translators? Or, perhaps, e-mail one of those overpaid state college perfesserz, and ask for a tiny bit of return on your “investment” that’s been stolen from you for decades…

  2. DonkeyBuster says:

Did the ‘net-based translation as suggested above, got:
    ultimate refero ut rex rgis
on two sites. & no, that’s not a typo, it is rgis.

    Joel, you nailed it.

  4. Matt says:

How about a nice simple American,
F-U King? With an extended middle finger for coat of arms?

according to my 35 year old latin class, (I wish now that my parents had made good on their threat to send me to catholic school)

    Ultimate Refero ut Rex rgis

    I prefer

    Ultimate Respondeo ut Rex rgis

which is The Ultimate Response to Kings…

    according to a web translator.
we don’t even get priests that speak any latin nowadays.

and mine’s so contaminated with Spanish as to render both useless.

I dunno… don’t know any latin at all. My place is decorated with an old horse shoe over the back door. Well, that and the no trespassing signs. I like it. 🙂

Just don’t have any class, I guess.

  7. If I am recalling my high school Latin corectly, the simplest translation of “Ultimate answer to Kings” is, “Ad ultimum Reges”.

Why not just use the phrase at the header of this blog. In spite of 4 years of latin,40+ years ago,I have no real idea what it says, but it’s what I associate with TUATK.

  9. Joel says:

Gotta be Latin. It’s a rule or something. Lemme just check the Manual for Secret Lair Signage Conventions…

    Yup. Latin.

    Ultima…..what an “A”….dufus……..DOH!

  12. Brass says:

The Cannon Cockers’ motto is “The Final Argument of Kingdom?”

I thought that still looked wrong.
The damn link doesn’t work now either.

    Buck.
