…and the only remaining question I had about the new chainsaw, involving battery charge duration, has been answered…
We got this much wood into the yard this morning…
…and the battery still shows two bars.
One serious limitation on the amount of time I can work with it, though…
The charger can’t even start working on the battery until it’s cool – which after a morning in the sun plus whatever heat the discharge built up, it definitely isn’t.
Gas n oil Tree Mike here, now I’m even MOAR amazed!
that’s why you need a second battery
I’ve got to think about this. I have a couple of gas saws, but they don’t get used often enough to make starting them painless. For cutting up branches, a 14″ would do. Ryobi has a 40V saw, and I have one of their mowers that came with two batteries…
Ryobi, but I’ve had decent luck with their stuff. Anybody with hands-on experience with this one?
RCPete, my Bro-in-law has been a general contractor for the past three decades and for the last fifteen of them all of his power tools are Ryobi including his 20-inch bar chainsaw. He swears by them because they aren’t that expensive, and they just keep on working.
Don’t forget to consider plug-in electric chain saws. They give you the same no-hassle experience for (usually) less money, but you trade extension cord issues for battery issues.
It looks like the local Home Desperate doesn’t stock the bare-tool version of the 40V Ryobi. I need to see how much of a pain the Husqvarna is; I’m having pros drop a couple of big trees (36″ diameter trunks), and I have to deal with the slash. There’s one down tree I already have to mess with, so late November is going to be happy fun saw time. Sigh. The Husqy has a 16″ bar, but mercifully most of the trunk is thinner than 32″. I’m looking at gifting the big pieces to some people with bigger saws who do a free firewood thing for old/poor people. I’m old, not poor. So far. 🙂
Plug in saws aren’t a good idea for our place. I have one for a pole saw, but since most of the trees are well out of extension cord reach, I have to lug a generator around to use it. Or, use the older manual saw. Nope.
