Okay, I knew I had a problem before I even knocked off yesterday evening…

…because I was gonna need a bunch of bolts. And I didn’t have a bunch of bolts. Screws I got. Nails I got. Don’t really stock many bolts. Went through my coffee can’o’old fasteners and came up with half a dozen that would probably work.
I also wasn’t completely comfortable that I had a drill bit with enough edge to cut the angle iron. For three horizontal bars I needed twelve holes, and six of them had to go through pretty heavy stock. I really don’t work with metal much.

I like my little B&D cordless drill, but knew up front it wasn’t up to this. And anyway I’d need the recip saw again, so I loaded the generator and a proper drill.

Brought the Jeep trailer out and brought back all the scrap from the fuel tank stand I cut up on Tuesday. Some of the straight angle iron will go right back out to the range, I guess the rest is scrap I need to find a place for. Probably keep it around for repairs.
Drilled holes in three of the short lengths of angle iron, then hauled them right back out the range.

The drill bit was giving up the ghost by the last hole, but we got the last one poked.

Whacked off the excess with the recip saw, and there you go.
Before I broke for lunch and some housework, I primed and painted the four targets I had chain and bolts enough to hang. Actually I’ve got lots of chain, but nothing to secure it with. I had a whole bag of bolts and nuts for chain repairs – it all went downstream last July.

There are three more pieces of plate, and they’ll go on the bottom rail. But I need a trip to the hardware store first.
I have all the steel and plywood needed for the paper target stand, but lack bolts and a sharp drill bit. Saturday with luck, more likely Monday.
But now that the stands have been moved back…

I need to set all new range markers. Only the 200, 300 and 400 yard markers still exist at all, but none of them are accurate. Ian has promised to send his rangefinder up with Landlady next time she comes, and I’ll mark the ranges then. Probably this coming weekend.
I’m a little bummed about the paper target stand. Maybe in the morning I’ll go see if I can bum some bolts and a sharp bit from Neighbor D. I can replace it on Monday.
For now, though, I need a bath.
