Next winter, no freeze on the yard faucet.

Now I just have to research how to install it. Can’t be too hard, I’ve seen these in the yards of people a lot less handy than me.

Then I have to scrounge at least one bucket full of gravel.

Don’t forget to add the 90 degree elbow to the drain hole (I think it’s this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DTTZ62). If you don’t add this then the rubber stopper gets damaged after a while and your hydrant will drip. Ask me how I know…

We had one on the side of the house that popped this year. Course the last plumber had silver soldered the pipe on so we had to have another come by and fix that mess. Now I can change it and I would bet it will out last me now. Oh well. Onward and upward.

Glad you leg is giving you less problems. those odd aches and pains are harder to deal with as we age.

I have a few on our place in S Central Oregon (4000′ up, so colder winters than the Portlandia creeps). When it’s cold for a long period of time (like several days below freezing), the faucets can freeze up. I ziptied black pipe insulation around the two that have freestanding pipe, and it helps a bit. The one that’s mounted to a post doesn’t get used in winter.

OTOH, if it gets above freezing during the day, you should be OK.
