A blast from the past – that never really happened.

About a month ago, Ian posted a short video about a kid’s pistol from the sixties that caused almost painful nostalgia. I remember that pistol as one I saw advertised when I was a boy, and OH I wanted one. It was one of those things that maybe, possibly, just barely within the bounds of credulity I could have saved up and bought for myself, if I’d been that self-disciplined.

This morning, after helping with a Forgotten Weapons video on a rifle even my most well-heeled adult self would never have dreamed of buying, Ian rummaged around and put that little faux-revolver in my hand. I’d never actually held one; never even seen one for real. Maybe it isn’t even the exact pistol I remember from ‘way back when my age was barely measured in double digits. But my heart says yes.

My adult mind said there was no reason to step out on the porch and put a few rounds through it, just because. I know what a .22 pistol feels like, and chances are this one wouldn’t have been an extraordinary shooter. But my long-buried little boy kinda wishes I had anyway.

Ooo, new FW video, looking forward to it. Ian seems like a really cool guy.

  2. If you want to get one….get it.

I have the same feelings you do, but I’ve managed to pretty much get everything that little boy wanted, back when. The good thing about it is – these things make my grandkids happy as hell to know about, and use. I did the legwork, and these possessions of mine will be passed on when I’m taking that final nap. Hopefully the enjoyment that I received from playing with them will transfer, in some way, to my descendants. Part of the enjoyment is in the hunt, though.

But there’s plenty more hunting to do!

At 18, I wanted a pistol. Under law I had to be 21. My salvation was a $3.95 12gauge Flare Pistol and several Sub Caliber Adapters. I was the first kid on the block to have a .38/.357 .45 .32 .22lr etc. in fact I think I’ll take that little guy out and menace some tin cans!

I missed that post! So it’s not just crazies like Ian who’d buy a thing like that just because. It’s also crazies like you and Roberta. Cool!

Yep. They’re not very expensive when they show up.
