Took two working days longer than I wanted, but I pretty much knew I was hosed when I had to go to town for bolts and bits and blades. Because that wasn’t going to happen before Monday.
But LB and I got out into the sand early, while it was still cool. And from the way my shoulder felt while trying to drill through heavy stock overhead, I’m glad I waited.

From start to finish took an hour and a half. Would have taken twice as long yesterday afternoon, with much swearing and dropping heavy things on toes and such. Glad I waited.

Anybody want to lease some billboard space? I actually considered spraypainting “This way to the Secret Lair” on it with an arrow, but came to my senses in time.

And there you have it: Ian’s new shooting range. There’s still some fiddling and fine tuning, but actual construction is done.

“I actually considered spray-painting “This way to the Secret Lair”…”
You should have, with a map that leads them back out to the highway. ;>)
You might consider “PRIVATE”, WARNING” or “DANGER” or some such, just for liability’s sake.
I have considered adding “Live range, proceed at your own risk” signs to the approaches. Don’t know if I’ll ever come up with decent signs, though.
“Live Range. If you didn’t already know that, you’re not supposed to be here and good luck.”
Naw. Neighbors use the wash all the time, pretty freely. Considering I’m the worst of the worst in that regard, it wouldn’t do to get snarky about it.
Far better to have the arrow on the sign pointing towards your neighbor with the problem dogs…
“When only the best will do. Kalashnikov “
Is that an actual sheet of new, non-scrounged plywood? What is the Lair coming to? Next thing you know, you will be sipping vintage, properly chilled and decanted wine from elegant crystal stemware.
It’s not pre-used plywood, I admit. Just sort of repurposed. That’s the biggest piece of a scarred sheet I bought off the truck that delivered my addition materials last year after the intended recipient refused it. I used a piece for I don’t remember what, and intended that chunk to be the basis for the hanging bedroom door. But it warped over the winter, so it got incorporated into this project.
I know this info is too late now,but my gun club uses similar sized frames, with cheap, light chicken wire screen stretched across. You hold paper targets in place with spring loaded clothes pins . The wire screen rarely needs replacing, and bullets don’t affect it (much),and wind and rain don’t bother it.
Say, that sounds interesting.
