Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

They oppress car owners, don’t they?
Another example of backward thinking from a gun banner house organ… An Initiative to Seize on Gun Control The National Rifle Association argues that such checks won’t deter felons and other ineligible purchasers determined to acquire guns. But the numbers … Continue reading
The strange places technology takes us…
One of the first things anybody would have to have noticed about the first generation of cellphone towers is that they were incomparably ugly. Sure, after a while you just sort of edit them out of your visual awareness and … Continue reading
Oh, get a load of this.
The title of the ad is “responsible.” Can you count the rule violations? I guess it would have been difficult to hire an SME willing to coach the actor, even if the thought had occurred to Illegal Mayors Against Guns.
Vainglorious windbags have “a responsibility to make this country safer.”
By seeking psychiatric help, perhaps. The Illegal Mayor Against Guns apparently made the Sabbath Gasbag tour yesterday. Says here: “I think I have a responsibility, and I think you and all your viewers have responsibilities, to try to make this … Continue reading
Where’s Al Gore when you need to blame him for something?
In the past six weeks it’s become a running gag here at the Gulch: We can have two uninterrupted weeks of gorgeous weather, and then Landlady and/or Ian will come up for a weekend and winter will return. I’m shivering … Continue reading

Oh, good! All the serious problems have been dealt with, I see.
Raise your hand if you never drowsily wandered into the wrong bathroom in a public building. Personally I consider the embarrassment to be punishment enough, but some politicians don’t agree. SB 1432 would make it illegal to enter a bathroom … Continue reading
Gun Grabbers, AR-15, and Unintended Consequences
I see here where gun ownership is down in America. No, seriously. That’s from the New York Times, so you know it must be true. It explains all the empty racks and shelves in gun stores. Nobody wants to buy … Continue reading
I’ll be damned.
Looks like Magpul meant it. And in a way that sticks its finger as far up the eye socket of the Colorado legislature as possible. With the signing of the HB 1224, we want to reassure Colorado residents, now officially … Continue reading
I love this thing.
I really do have to sit down and finish that book. But let me just take this opportunity to say how much I love my going-on-a-year-old electrical system. It’s tiny; two 170-watt panels and two 186-amp six-volt batteries, a 4500-watt … Continue reading
Dianne Feinstein – “A blight on everything that America stands for.”
She works so hard. Why can’t you just give her what she wants? Newtown! Harvey Milk! SHE’S A VICTIM! “I tried my best,” Ms. Feinstein said with obvious disappointment. “My best, I guess, wasn’t good enough.” Sniff. I feel so … Continue reading
You’ve probably already seen this, but…
This is hilarious. I found it while doing actual research, aren’t you proud of me? And of course was promptly distracted. Ladies answering Joe Biden’s call to “Buy a shotgun.”
Would you like to know more?
“High risk situations, when we know there’s some armed individuals in there…” I’m so happy they’re having fun. I’ll be sure to set out a plate of cookies. The tone of the thing kind of reminds me of this.
Ah, legislators. Is there anything they can’t do?
Yes, this is exactly the caliber of people I want crafting the laws under which I must live, for the betterment of all society. So thoughtful, so wise, so…um… H/T to Codrea.
“If he doesn’t want in, I don’t want in.”
