So we’re in what feels like day 20 of the summer’s first heat wave. The very first day of it reminded me of something I strongly dislike about this laptop, which is that it runs really hot. (It’s a feature I kind of like in winter.) If the ambient temp is mid-eighties or higher, the ‘pooter is very prone to overheat. Scares the hell out of me every time, because I can’t afford to replace it.
Anyway, I had a little money in the bank (thanks) and spent $20 of it on this laptop stand with a big built-in fan. And today it arrived, and I was very anxious to see if it did any good. Turns out it seems to solve the problem entirely, which made Uncle Joel happy.
And I was gathering up the packing material to carry out to the burn barrel when I happened to actually read it…
I do not think that word means what they think it means. Because charring is something I’m trying to prevent, not encourage.

When was the last timeyou cracked the case and cleaned out the innards? Fuzz and dust-bunnies act as insulation.
I did mine just two years after getting it (I thought it was overheating, turns out I had a virus). Even without any pets, I was amazed at the amount of GUNK inside, particularly on the heat-sink/fan.
Just a thought.
That thought has occurred to me, especially in my dust-and-dog-hair-filled environment. But there’s no obvious way to do it. I’m pretty sure if I removed the – I’m going to go with dozens – of tiny screws holding the case together there would be a mighty “SPRONG” noise and I’d never, ever get it back together again.
