Landlady came up this weekend with a pile of swag for Uncle Joel…
Get a load of this! I’m a member of the Claire Cabal, and out of the blue a few weeks ago a member there said he was sending me a set of the BWH Whole Sheebang, basically everything BWH ever published in print, which is more than a winter’s reading for sure.

Two whole cases of books and bound magazine anthologies, designed to be useful to a homestead. Landlady was so impressed she immediately cleared out bookshelf space in Ian’s Cave, which is sort of centrally located in the Gulch.
A number of people took pity on my recent (and ongoing) back pain travails…

A pretty high quality back brace…

A brand-new TENS unit, complete with extra electrodes and batteries. I’ve never used one of these before, but I’m going to give it a try.
And another Generous Reader, er, sort of didn’t pay attention to all those terrifying warnings about the “opioid crisis.” We’ll leave it at that.
On a related note…

“For the treatment of superficial dermal ulcers,” of the sort I chronically deal with on my stump. I’m giving one of these a try as we speak, since a constant recurring pressure sore has flared up recently.
On a happier note…

Packaged munchies from Big Brother! Along with a couple of touristy t-shirts I’m still trying to figure out, although it turns out at the bottom of the box there were…

A couple of really high-qual utilitarian t-shirts that will definitely get a lot of use. These things’ll last way better than what I can acquire locally.
And speaking of useful things…

Two packages of drill bits, 3/8″ and 1/2″. These are most appreciated since it seems like I’ve been spending a fortune in drill bits lately. They last a lot longer on wood than on angle iron.
I can’t directly use the 1/2″ bits because my drill chuck isn’t big enough, but as it happens in the near future I’ll need a drill-related favor from a neighbor who does have one, and these may serve as a useful bribe. If that use doesn’t happen, I believe Landlady actually does own a drill with a 1/2″ chuck. Either way, eventually they’ll get used.
Thanks, guys!
I got the new porch a present…

I left the porch’s corner post long for a specific reason, which I now have the means to demonstrate: A couple of decorative hooks and a fairly nice hummingbird feeder. I’ve always been delighted with the swarms of hummingbirds we have in the high desert, but I haven’t maintained a feeder since I moved out of the RV trailer. Just never got around to it. Now I’m gonna.

And while spending money, I actually did purchase something useful: The latest installment in my 2018 Stump sock Resupply project.
I love care package day. You guys rock.

It’s like Christmas in July! Thanks for sharing
Yeah, I always love care package days. Thank you Joel and the givers of cool things.
This seemed to be a particularly spectacular haul of useful, thoughtful items. Your readers really do know how to dazzle. Special tip o’ hat to the giver of the BHM Shebang. What a great idea making a central place for it at the gulch.
Hmm, I may have a solution of sorts (easily portable too) to the dull drill bit conundrum. Standby while I find the darned thing and all related bits and pieces……. Do not throw away any dull drill bits.
