If you build your cabin on stilts…

…and you have any notion that you might need to work under it at some point…

…and you will…

Leave a crawl space high enough to get yer ass in there.

That is all.

Yup,and while you’re at it…don’t run wires and pipes where you can’t get to them later, and don’t put things behind kitchen cabinets that are exactly one arm’s length plus one inch from the nearest access.
We learn a lot,and then we forget all about it.

It’s not the getting in part that is the problem, it is the getting out.

    Tell me about it.

When you discover you aren’t the only creature down there, getting out is desireable. The amount of space available is inversely proportional to the desire to access said space- or to get out. I don’t like crawl spaces. At all.

  5. Coming along nicely on the root cellar/bunker then?

Got the hardest side done. The second side’ll be a piece of cake by comparison; only one section has any plumbing and the floor’s higher and easier to crawl under. To get to the last couple of sections yesterday I had to tear out a lot of my drain pipe, then reassemble it.
