My neighbors know I don’t really celebrate any holidays, and also that I don’t turn down free food. So when I was invited to a genuine traditional Thanksgiving dinner at J&H’s, I most certainly showed up.
Turkey and stuffing, wonderful green beans cooked with onions and bacon, mashed potatoes and dressing and fresh rolls and deep-dish pumpkin pie…my stomach is very full and isn’t quite sure it’s happy with me at the moment. I brought a couple of loaves of fresh bread just so as to not come empty-handed, and they never even got opened. Plus I didn’t leave empty-handed – I came home with a boatload of leftover turkey. And then S came over to borrow my chimney-cleaning gear and bring Ghost back (Ghost snuck away in the late morning, but they’ve got a new wave of grandkids who aren’t familiar with him and the older he gets the less trustworthy he is around young things), and when he showed up he brought a big plate of pastries I’m probably not going to be able to touch this evening. So. Much. Food. All of it richer than I’m really used to. I’m sipping tea at the moment and eying the Alka-Seltzer.
It was worth it, though. 🙂
Glad you got filled up, Joel. I spent dinner with family, and for once had a decent time. Of course, the family was on best behavior, as I brought a work mate.
So glad you did go, Joel. The FSW bunch here used to have a big pot luck for Thanksgiving or Christmas, but we’ve not done it for several years now. As much as I am content to live alone, it is nice to gather with family and friends sometimes. But I’m NOT going back to California for it. sigh
Anyway, I made myself a hot chicken sandwich and then had a slice of my favorite banana bread. Went back for the cauliflower later. It’s only on special occasions that I allow myself to eat desert before the vegetable. LOL
It is good to have plenty and overindulge now and then.
FSW? Family Services of Wsomething? I googled it but don’t think Chinese sattelites or Florida SW State are it.
FSW is Free State Wyoming: http://www.freestatewyoming.org/
Boston T Party is our founder. Just a little bunch of gun (and other) nuts who moved to Wyoming. 🙂
Have the gulch residents considered that Ghost may have vision and/or hearing problems that make it difficult for him to be around the more unpredictable and noisy young things, and what you are seeing is a startled anxiety response to living in a world he isn’t quite aware of?
Glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving!!
Best wishes from a sunny-SA,
C.
