Okay, so yesterday didn’t go so well…

Did my shit-shoveling. Hung around the Lair until J wanted to go to town, and I tagged along because I wanted to do some food shopping and a Subway didn’t sound bad. Felt myself going back into the migraine nod while in town, and more-or-less regained consciousness somewhere around 11 PM. Not that I was ever actually unconscious, exactly. My brain just wandered into the weeds to play with its toes for a while.

While in town I bought some unusual items. Reflected anxiety over the state of my breadmaking supplies, I suppose. Nothing I won’t be happy for later, though I’m really not sure what I’m going to do with a dozen storebought eggs. Sometime in the afternoon I vaguely recall having taken a drive to Landlady’s to refrigerate some hamburger. I came back with her big external hard drive, and spent the rest of the afternoon and well into the evening immersed in old Top Gear episodes. Normally I have little patience for that show, but yesterday I seem to have found it hilarious and riveting. I’m not sure what random impulse caused me to do that.

It’s never hung on this long before. My head still hurts a little, and I’m no longer quite convinced that any given action will turn out to have been entirely rational. One thing I’m not going to do until this clears up is go out and labor in the hot sun, because it might be equal parts migraine and heat stroke. Pisses me off, because I had some momentum going on the cabin floor.

Indeed, I’d stay out of the hot sun for a while if I were you. And I’m wondering if you are staying hydrated enough.

As for the eggs, you might be able to use some suggestions in this article: http://www.preparednesspro.com/safely-preserving-eggs/

How to preserve eggs up to 9 months without refrigeration.

Preserve your fresh, home grown eggs and pig out on the store kind for a few days. Don’t forget to salt your eggs… if you are sweating a lot, you may be low on that as well as water.

Hope you’re feeling better and back to yourself in no time.

  3. Your description reminds me a bit of a blood sugar crash and its aftereffects.

Ever noticed any tie-in with the barometric pressure? Windy up in your area today?

  4. Just remember that the one thing you have an abundance of right now is time.
It ain’t gonna rain and it ain’t gonna freeze there for months yet.

I thought that was part of the charm of getting older man, being able to say fuck it once in a while.

I know I am learning to slow down in my advancing age, my tore up body won’t let me get away with as much as it used to.

It has been windy, but mostly what it has been is hot. We’ve been in a full-on heat wave for the whole bloody month, dry, windy, temps in the mid-to-high nineties every damn day. This is unusual for June, and I think it’s gotten to me.

Trouble is I really am in kind of a time crunch. I wanted to finish the floor insulation in a hurry because I really do believe monsoon is coming early this year. In fact I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t arrived. The ground under the Lair will get muddy, the wind will damage my new, expensive insulation sheets, but more important when I’m done with this I need to tarpaper a couple of the Lair’s walls. The OSB was never meant to spend this much time exposed; it’s dried and shrunk and some of the seams are gaping, and the rain will just pour through this summer with resultant effect on the wall insulation. I have a lot of work to do, and for a while there I was building momentum in doing it.
