Yesterday’s Obama speech was simply breathtaking.

The sheer chutzpa of standing in front of a crowd, claiming you will now right all historical wrongs by closing Guantanamo and locking the prisoners in supermax prisons without trial instead, expecting (and receiving!) applause for having ‘re-established American principles’…

It’s breathtaking.

Thanks, Joel. You’re the first person I’ve heard comment on the obvious: that “closing Guantanamo” was never about the &^%$#@!ing location where prisoners should be held indefinitely without trial. OMG!

As I listen to news report after news report about “where to put the detainees,” I think I’m going to scream. I know I must be going crazy, because surely it’s not possible that every, single newsie is completely missing the actual point! Which is: either try them in real courts or let them go!

Or be honest about it and shoot them in the head. Our rulers and would-be rulers have been using 1984 as an instruction manual for some time now anyway, so let’s just go whole hog and ship the ‘terrorists’ in for public mass executions. Oceania is at war with terror; Oceania has always been at war with terror.

If that doesn’t get the job done, it doesn’t need doing.
