Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

Heat Wave
For the first time so far this year, the weather actually did what I predicted. Cool days/cold nights hung on so long, almost all the way through May, that I said it’ll do this until it abruptly turns hot. And … Continue reading
The flowers in my garden
Heh – yeah, faked you out. I’ve never successfully grown a garden. Sure seem to have a lot of flowers though. Every year I find new ones. Meant to take a bunch of pix of the cliff roses, which had … Continue reading
…hesitantly raises hand…
It is absolutely mind boggling that these government pond scum hacks can get away with reporting that 484,000 people who WERE unemployed last month are no longer unemployed this month. Life is so f***ing good in this country, they all … Continue reading
New rule at the Secret Lair: That window gets closed at night, too.
It’s a high altitude desert: Day/night temperature swings, like everything else, can be extreme. So here it is June, and I’m only now starting to go to bed with the windows open. Since Principal Seymour Skinner came to live with … Continue reading
“Can never stand?” Sure it can! We just need another rule.
This is … almost funny, except that it’s terrifyingly Orwellian. Obama Regulators Lose Case to Apply Future Laws to the Past Judges ruled that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) improperly pursued an $800,000 fraud fine against “homebound” … Continue reading
One week in and already spoiled…
LB used to let me ignore him for half a day at a time. Now it’s just him and me, and if I spend too much time on the ‘pooter with my back to the world I can expect to … Continue reading
Well. That’s not cynical in the least.
Y’know, I expect national elections to make me despair for my country. That’s pretty routine. Lately, though, I’m becoming ashamed of my species membership. Poll: 71 percent of Dems think Clinton should keep running even if indicted Clinton was strongly … Continue reading
Do these interferences ever turn out to be right?
I am not a nutritionist – and neither is Michelle Obama. And nutritionists seem to keep their heads up their asses pretty consistently anyway. But that doesn’t stop the government from trying to dictate ‘healthy’ eating, one generation after another … Continue reading
Update: The batteries are charging.
They’re charging excruciatingly slow, but they’re charging. Specific gravity 1.09 at 4PM, and there’s bubbles. Possible problem with the solar panel circuit, maybe. AFAICT the big refrigerator is pulling it down.
First of the month is Battery Day at the gulch, and we’ve maybe found a problem…
On the first day of every month (more or less, weather permitting) I go around to all the battery banks I’m responsible for and top off their electrolyte levels. That has grown to a total of 48 storage batteries or … Continue reading
Headline of the day…
“Florida: On the one hand, no personal income tax. On the other hand…” When I was in high school in south Florida, the running joke was that somebody had forgotten to tell the alligators they were an endangered species. The … Continue reading
Things that bother me: how can it be that in a “free country,” there are genuinely questions you’re not supposed to ask?
Of course, I don’t actually hear people say “It’s a free country” much anymore…
I’d toyed with the notion that this election couldn’t get weirder…
…but, naw. Trump secures the coveted King Jong Un endorsement *Sigh* I need a new theme song, on the order of “Happy to be a hermit/Far from the Hermit Kingdom…”
This explains everything! The Republic was the bad guys.
It’s all so simple now.
