…and so that’s why nobody hires me to build bridges.

My poor engineering strikes again…

My new dueling tree started misbehaving. The top target worked okay but the bottom one kept stopping in the middle of its swing.

Not super hard to understand why. The weight of the swinging targets broke the block I’d cemented the 2X4 into, and now the board was leaning backward.

Okay, digga we musta.

It’s remarkable how many problems in the desert can be fixed with a shovel and a little sweat. 🙂 I set up the target in February when I was still hurting after a day of working on Neighbor L’s Jeep, and did a half-ass job. We’ll see how long it lasts this time.

On a roll, I soldiered on and replaced the chicken wire on the paper target stand that has needed replacing for … oh, years. I’ll start procrastinating again tomorrow.

Careful, if you start procrastinating about procrastinating you’ll turn into that helpful guy that everyone around you delends on … hey, wait a minute ….

Dig your way to China was what the old guys used to say. Course now I am the old guy in most groups. Go figure.

Good to see that you are getting some trigger time in.
Any results/ observations as to which ammo is working best?

  5. Joel says:

So far I’ve only used the bulk 114 but it has run flawlessly. Weird: I had a lot of FTFs in the first 500 rounds or so and they seemed to be almost entirely with 114 gr ammo but that has almost entirely stopped. Recently I had a couple of hard double feeds with Winchester truncated cone 114 but that was the first trouble in quite a few rounds.

I think you mean 115 gr.

  7. Joel says:

    Yeah, that’s what I meant. 🥺

  8. Beaner49 says:

Sorry to hear the 115 was causing FTFs, I had the same issue but only with a few rounds. Since i was running a DA/SA just pulling the trigger a second time solved the issue.
You mentioned that 500 had gone down range.
Are you running low on 115?

  9. Joel says:

Beaner, sorry, I was unclear. The Arex initially had trouble with 115, this was nearly a year ago, but the problem gradually cleared up as the pistol wore in. I have only fired a few mags of the new 115 and so far it has worked flawlessly.

The reason i was asking is that company is having a sale on 9mm .
The 115 that did give me some FTFs.
You also shoot 44 special, yes?

I used to shoot a lot of 44 special, when I carried a 44 every day. Since I stopped carrying it I stopped reloading for it, and with the cheapest 44 special costing $70/box I sure don’t shoot it much any more.
