Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

I wrote this yesterday, then thought, “Naw.”

Update on the new generation of gulchers.
I’ve been totally remiss, not having mentioned the babies since Ralphie’s unfortunate demise over a week ago. Mostly because there’s not much to report. I lost one for no apparent reason, but that happens. The others are growing like weeds. … Continue reading
Claire’s site is gonna be moving.
Which is news, I guess, for those of us who love Claire but isn’t such vital news as to call for its own post until she actually moves, right? Yeah, except she’s got a fund-raiser going on and it’s moving … Continue reading
Y’know, I don’t mind “black lives matter” or “blue lives matter…”

Well – it looks kinda cool, anyway…

Mel Tappan, thou art (sort of, grudgingly) vindicated.
So I was getting dressed yesterday, and again this morning which is why this post came to mind, and normally that doesn’t involve any anguish over which handgun to put on. Taurus Tracker .44 Magnum, my EDC gun since last … Continue reading
Solar power system upgrade dreams
If I may quote from a certain book, [T]he saving grace of Solar is that – within certain practical limits – it’s scalable. Once you’ve got the system in place you can add to it, or replace bits that aren’t … Continue reading
Huh. It turns out there actually is artisanal firewood.
