Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

Someday I’d like to see one of these things actually work.

Whenever Massad Ayoob weighs in on a matter, I always just sort of assume he’s wrong*. So now I hate the SAF, even though I didn’t when I woke up this morning. — *Because cops.
You spent money on this? On purpose?
And then even after seeing what you’d wrought, you went ahead and made it public anyway. That’s…really amazingly stupid. I don’t make these things up… H/T to Bear.
Hee. The Huey P. Newton Gun Club. I’m loving it.
As Donald Sensing correctly points out, this is the whole reason we ended up with a gun control movement in the first place. A southern white man could have driven around with a Maxim gun in the back of his … Continue reading
Montana politics must be weird.
Way back when I was trying to decide where I wanted to live out the rest of my days, the state of Montana was on the short list. It didn’t make the cut because I didn’t actually know anyone there … Continue reading
The Song of My People…
Yeah, allow me to retort by introducing you to the cuisine of my people. Landlady sent this to me this morning…
This is the part where I pretend to be witty.

Something sad is happening…

Boy, I got the short end of that deal…
Annually, there’s a big problem at Hacienda Del J&H as the manure pile gets out of hand. Last summer I hauled it away with Ian’s tractor, but I couldn’t promise to do that this time due to reliability issues. How … Continue reading

Wow, that was cool.
I’m sitting in my cabin watching it rain. It’s tapering off now, but a few minutes ago it was really raining. What’s odd is that that’s all it was doing. No thunder, no great flashes of lightning striking the ridgelines, … Continue reading
I’m starting to have more sympathy for Elmer Keith.
Not that he needs my sympathy or anything. But Keith was old-school, for all that he was also a great innovator, and one thing about him that always got on my nerves is that he saw absolutely nothing wrong with … Continue reading
