Here’s another example of that synchronicity I’m always on about.
The new bedroom already has a bed and nightstand coming (allegedly needs painting first.) I have closet racks and furniture already. But I noticed as soon as it was built that the west front corner of the bedroom is a very pleasant place to sit and read, and determined that somewhere I have to score a comfortable chair for that corner. I also noticed that we’re a little short on furniture stores around here. I was just thinking about that this morning, in fact. I figured something would turn up.
And then today, out of the blue, without any discussion of that sort in their presence, Neighbors D&L decided they wanted rid of this…
I need to store it elsewhere till the room is finished, so it was probably kind of dumb to go ahead and bring it home and set it up. But I wanted to try it on, so to speak.
In fact I think I see a book that wants reading…
Primo nice chair! Looks good and better yet looks comfortable!
Isn’t it amazing when things like that happen?
It looks very comfy, very nice. Next step a small table with a reading lamp. Maybe some bookshelves with an eclectic assortment of reading material. Oh, and a bed… don’t forget the bed. :^)
Do you have reading lamp, perhaps a floor lamp, to fit in the nice little niche of a corner behind the chair?
Lovely chair, by the way. Yes, synchronicity is a lovely mechanism of the Universe.

And an outlet for said lamp?
I remain excited about this project Joel. It’s going to be a tremendous improvement to the livability of your Lair.
You need an end table. And some crocheted doilies…

some crocheted doilies
Why does everyone want to make Joel into Jolie? He’s a MAN, dammit! He needs *beer*! And a beer fridge. And ammo. And coffee. And Spam.
But no doilies:-P.
Feralfae, what I have is a lovely ceiling box right above the reading chair, which may sprout a swag lamp at some point but actually the ceiling light seems to work great as I was reading well into the night with this classy arrangement right here…
Cool. It’s absolutely retro-tech!
😉
A beer fridge next to the chair to serve as an end table would be awesome. No doilies, though. Maybe a dish towel.
That’s a very guy-arranged light, and entirely sufficient. Good call. 🙂
(Oh, yikes! They really do think that ugly, hanging thing is fine . . . guys!) (Just kidding)
But the end table/beer fridge sounds excellent. With a plank end for a coaster on the top, no doubt.
I never owned a recliner until I was 49. I had only sat myself in a couple, & had probably only reclined in on once or twice. When I bought my present abode, I looked (much as did Joel) at the empty space on the far side of my bed, & decided that needed filling.
It’s a mini-den in there. I have a TV, a floor model vintage 1983, a recliner, a small table for books, beverages, & ashtray. Haven’t turned that TV on in a year or so; it’s for watching the local public channel (they had “Sherlock” on last year, & “Doctor Blake Mysteries” the year before), because only that TV can pull in the signal from that station.
I like that light, Joel: very hillbilly-chic.You really need a checkered cloth sheath over the wiring, just to make it look vintage.
Oops–I guess I never got to my point (a hazard of aging).
Joel, wear it out as much as possible! It’s your home; make it comfortable. I don’t know how many places I’ve lived in where I just accepted what I’d moved in there, & never thought about improving, because my mind was often occupied with “more important” things. Bullshit. I now spend a little more time making myself comfortable, in small ways.
Yeah, I’m with comfortable.
And Jabrwok,
And the light bulb suspended on the wire, because, works.
Pretty sure guys would still be in caves hunting rodents with bleached bone tools, but for other participants. Spear, bow, and arrow – yeah. There because XX tires of rodents, and weeds aren’t really salad. So go fix that.
Makes XY useful, so, gets to stick around…

I’m not so sure of that. I don’t speak Dutch, so I can’t confirm the veracity of this article by watching the video, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
