I could blame it on the weather but really I just haven’t been feeling it, and there’s been no pressing need. But this morning promised to be typical Monsoon, still and warm in the morning and then hot and threatening storms in the afternoon, and I knew a couple of packages were waiting for me in town, and there wasn’t anything else I felt urgently needed doing this morning, so…
Screw it. Let’s go for a ride.
And now, ladies and gentlemen! From the far-off, exotic lands of China and Thailand! We present for your enjoyment and edification…
On the way home I was struck by the amusing thought that both of these packages involve Big Brother, but in opposite ways. I ran out of traction tape for my porch stairs, and Big Brother decided to send me this roll. I also ran out of the rather large stock of chili sauce that Big Brother sent me over time since I recently got back into eating rice dishes, so I bought some on my own. Symmetry!
Would it be worth trying a herb garden, or would that be like planting coins and expecting them to grow?
S.v.
I keep trying. The only herb I have been able to grow with fair success is rosemary, which goes well in bread. But the climate and…well, okay, the soil is a complete waste of time but in addition to that the climate just doesn’t seem to be good for growing anything but squash and other stereotypical Native American stuff. I have been thinking of tearing out my vestige of a chicken yard and getting a small greenhouse. That might work, though it would then be important to address the next problem which is mice.
Ya know, chili sauce is super easy to make. Sugar, vinegar, crushed red pepper flakes simmered for a few. I make it by the quart for pennies. Tons of recipes for it out there. Stay safe!
