This afternoon will be sweaty, rumbly and possibly wet, if all the other afternoons this week are any guide. But it’s sunny, still and relatively cool this morning, and Big Brother sent me a package, so let’s go for a bike ride and get it.
On the way back I saw something flash by on the road, so I circled back to see if my snapshot impression had been correct…
Yup: A broken bolt will probably lead to a bad day for somebody, and then left on the road like that it’s likely to cause a bad day for somebody else. Too nice a day not to scoop that up and toss it into the ditch before it wrecks somebody’s tire.
Check your trailer from yesterday’s dump run. Could be a spring shackle bolt?
That is not a problem item for the ditch, take it home, clean it up, tap another 1/2 inch of thread and place in the “fix a jeep” box. Looks like leaf spring or A arm bushing bolt. Always good to have one in the bin.
You are too good a man for the desert.
That bolt looks like it’s from the lower unit of a Yamaha outboard. I have two units on the bench & the color, the length & the washer look Yamaha. And when they break from corrosion that’s where they break. Don’t reckon you have to many outboards in the desert.
Not so many, no. I’m guessing shock shackle, or some part of a water trailer’s suspension.
