Apologies for the light posting, there hasn’t been much going on. Weather has been rather autumn-like…
Unusually cool mornings, never getting very hot in the afternoon. Past two days have been fair but we had surprising morning rain before that…
…postponing certain winter preps like taking down the awning over the porch stairs and front bedroom window. I made that sunshade to block the late afternoon sun when I’m porch-sitting in mid-summer and it does that – but it also breaks up rain beating into that window, which tends to leak. I doubt it would take any snow load, though, so it goes up in May and usually comes down in September.
People have asked about how the Goat People are doing – Truth is one of them died and the other is on hospice care. Nothing happened, it was just very bad health. The goats are gone and their dogs are in a new enclosure. The other morning during morning walkie their Pyrenees Bridget was barking at something, which drew Tobie’s attention…
Those dogs are one reason Tobie isn’t allowed off leash. It’s not their fault, but whenever he’s reminded of them Tobie really wants to go make friends and I’m not allowing it.
Speaking of Tobie – Paging Doctor Pavlov…
There’s one patch of floor right in the middle of the main room that needs mopping rather more often than others…
…because that’s where Tobie crouches and watches me cook and eat my breakfast. Every damned day.
I’m not the world’s greatest housekeeper, and the late summer/early autumn morning sun calls me out on it…
…highlighting all the dust and cobwebs on the Wall’O’Kitsch.
The unseasonal rain trapped me indoors when I’m usually outside doing stuff, so that reminder got me into cleaning mode. I even tore up the spice (and stuff Tobie wants to eat) corner of the kitchen…
…to give it a good cleaning that doesn’t happen very often. Most cluttered part of the Lair.
I’ve been looking for an opportunity to try that new EDC lighter outdoors. Not enough time has passed to determine whether it will hold fuel better than a regular Zippo, but one good thing about Zippos is their wind resistance and since this one lacks a Zippo’s fence I doubted this one is any more wind-resistant than a Bic – which is not in the least bit wind resistant.
The one thing I regularly use my pocket lighter for finally came due this morning…
The burning barrel is of course a fire hazard so I greatly prefer to light it up in the morning when the wind is at a minimum, and…
Well, it’ll stay lit under those conditions. I doubt it’ll stay lit in real wind, but we’ll see. That little breeze would have blown out a Bic, so there’s that.
And that’s about all that’s going on. Going to town this afternoon, maybe something else worth mentioning will happen.
So sorry to hear about the goat people, somehow I thought they were younger
They are not/were not all that old. Just in very poor health. Can’t imagine living in a smoky dark uninsulated shed for two winters and up to their bare ankles in goat shit for that many summers while they got their housing straightened out was a big help.
