Commander Zero continues to promote his admirable holiday…
Every year he sends me a nice card and gift, though I’ve never given him anything. This year, today, actually, I got a substantial box containing several things…
A whole bunch of .44 Special ammunition, not economically feasible around here…
A book – and while I’m not the author’s biggest fan I confess I never heard of this book so it may be worth reading…
A package of Magpul…magazine pulls…
A 40-round AK magazine, which probably won’t get a lot of use but I appreciate his acknowledgement that the noble AK is still the official carbine of TUAK…
A, um, … Okay, in the package I assumed it was a smartphone case, but it definitely isn’t that. Maybe it’s a small parts tray? Whatever, it looks like a darned good small parts tray and that’s what it’ll get used for.
And…
I was genuinely curious what this was. Couldn’t wait to get it home, open it up, and it turned out…
…to be a little Zippo-style lighter. I have a couple of good Zippos I have scrounged here and there but only carry a Bic lighter because although Zippos are superior in many ways, they require maintenance and unless you’re a smoker the lighter is likely to be dry when you need it. This one is airtight, though, and maybe its fuel won’t evaporate? I’m interested in trying it out.
Thanks, CZ!
That small parts tray glows in the dark. Put it on your bedside table. It glows just enough you can easily find whatever you put in it when things go bump in the night.
Ah! Okay, thank you.
I’m not sure, but I think that’s an Autographed-specially-for-Paratus book.
I tried to read one of Rawles’ books some years ago, and didn’t finish it. Stylistic issues aside, I didn’t find any content that was useful to my situation. But then, most survival books don’t apply to low-income urban apartment dwellers, who can’t suddenly afford to buy a place out away from the cities. Selco has a lot more to say to me than Rawles.
Put the lighter in a small ziploc type bag and squeeze out all the air. Keeps the lighter fluid from evaporating for a long time….
The .44 ammo reminded me of something Rudyard Kipling wrote years ago,
“A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition.” Happy, “Paratus” day, whatever the hell that is.
Need a link to source for that lighter – my Zippo has been in a cabinet for years because dry-out in AZ takes about 2 hours in the summer. cc’ing this request to CZ’s site, too.
Happy (belated) Paratus Day, etc.
Lighter is from County Comm.
Thx CZ – bookmarked and shopping now!
Thanks for that tip on maintaining Zippo lighters Taminator013 ! I have some heavy plastic zip locks that would be perfect for that Zippo project. Might even include a spare flint or three in the package. Currently, I line several of the flints up on a piece of clear packing tape and press fit them shut. Much easier to keep them visible when package. Inserting these inside the Zippo cap would keep it all together.
Again – much obliged.
