I hadn’t realized it before today. But I tore up my rotator cuff sometime in October I think, and since then haven’t really done any work at all. Now the shoulder’s feeling much better and D&L needed hay, so we went to town and loaded up the trailer. Brought it back and stacked it in their barn.
30 bales later my shoulder still feels fine but the rest of me was crying like a college kid. This time last year I could do my share of that and hardly break a sweat. Winter has returned somewhat and it’s really windy, so I was freezing on all the exposed parts and swimming in sweat under my coat – not real comfortable. And now I’ve got straw and pellet sacks I need to bring to the hens, so quick lunch and back to work.
BUT! I wanted to show you my new shiny…

There’s a boot and saddle shop in the little town nearest where I live, but for all the time I lived here it was run by a guy in his eighties who showed up when he wanted and didn’t always do such good work. Now it’s been sold to this younger (and intensely Mormon) fellow and I hoped maybe I could get a better product. I’ve been wanting for some time to score a decent sheath for that nice knife Darrel the Former Cop made me last year, and at last I have!

It’s a little prettier than I was going for – I like my belt gear plain, so I don’t mind scratching it – but it fits the knife and the belt beautifully and looks like it should wear just fine. I’d have gone a little wider on the stitching, but if I knew what I was talking about I’d have made one myself. 🙂

I feel your pain Joel. There has been a medical issue I’ve been dealing with for a while now and one of the spin offs is when I exercise I experience several hours of major “please kill me now” pain. The result is I haven’t been doing anything strenuous so I’m turning into a mush ball. On the bright side I go under the knife in April and once that’s taken care of look out world.
Remember one thing Joel, once you have a rotator cuff issue it’s easy to secre it up again so take care of yourself.
Yeah, I figured that out. This is just an elaboration on damage I did during the fall I took in summer 2015 while (just after, thankfully) siding the cabin. I was a long time getting mostly over that, and then last autumn’s fall made it several times worse. But I really am approaching a tolerable new level of normal, and it only took five-ish months.
Have I mentioned how much I covet that new knife?
Pure form-follows-function design and execution.
Me likee.
🙂 Yeah, I was prepared to hate it because it’s made from a commercial blank and I didn’t believe it would hold a good edge. But the design is damn near perfect for a utility belt knife, and it does in fact hold an edge just fine. We might be together for a while, which is almost a shame because right after DtFC started on it a generous reader sent me this, which I’ve been carrying every day for almost four months and which I also love.
I need two waists. 🙁
I like that leather work. It’s good to have somebody around who can work leather. I have an ancient Jackass Leather Company rig for the Browning High Power I need to get refurbished. There’s an old guy in town who does good work, but he’s not cheap.
Nice work on sheath. Pouch sheaths are good for worker bee’s, no retaining straps to unsnap or accidentally cut when removing or inserting blade back inside.
