I expected to murder him. I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much.

There’s a scene in Game of Thrones where Theon Grayjoy, trapped in Winterfell, is being slowly driven mad by a guy outside the walls blowing a war horn. It’s been going on for days. “I’m going to kill that man no matter what else happens,” he paraphrases.

I think about that scene a lot lately. Every morning around 4:30, to be precise.

Laugh it up, Smithers, while I gather some fresh veggies.

I’ve tried to read the first novel a couple of times but couldn’t get into it. I did like The Hedge Knight though.

I really enjoyed Walt’s Gulch by the way, I’ll need to get my hands on some more plastic money to pick up the sequel.

But think of all the positive things he adds to your lifestyle – 4:30am is a wonderful cool time to get work done when you live in the desert, and it’s a beautiful time of day. Then you take a nap when it gets really hot. Smithers doesn’t need batteries or electricity or winding up to be able to alert you to the beauties of the early morning desert. He has your comfort and well being as a priority, and is a low input asset to your lifestyle. Maybe you could take up water color or oil painting of the light and the scenery early in the morning and offer your paintings for sale (framed with some of your scrap wood) to readers of your blog. When you sell your paintings for thousands each, it will be thanks to Smithers. What more could you ask from a stoopid chicken? Or let Smithers walk and scratch on a canvas that has oil or acrylic paint on it, and sell HIS paintings!! But if you eat him, all his positive contributions to your daily life and potential prosperity will end…

    I can hardly wait.
