Lies, damn lies, and selective editing

Kurt Hofmann catches the ever-so-objective mass media in a flat-out lie teensy mistake…

CNN’s Twitter feed quoted her this way:

Hillary Clinton on guns: “We can’t let a minority of people who hold a viewpoint terrorize the majority.”

Watching video of the discussion though, starting right about here, shows that CNN engaged in some creative, convenient, and unacknowledged editing. This is what she actually said:

I believe that we need a more thoughtful conversation. We cannot let a minority of people, and that’s what it is–it is a minority of people–hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.

An inadvertent error, I’m sure. Hillary has stated that she wants a ‘more thoughtful conversation,’ which naturally requires all sides to be fully and accurately informed. She said it, I believe it, that settles it. So I’m sure CNN got it right, and the video clip got it wrong. Hey, that’s what memory holes are for, right?

Orwell might have been an optimist.

Now, Kurt. Let’s not blow things out of proportion. I’m sure that George would have completely – even loudly – agreed with every smallest thing Hillary ever said, while being dragged screaming to Room 101 along with the rest of us for a little thoughtful conversation.
