I’ve been feeding horses for J&H this week. They want them fed at 6&6, which means Uncle Joel needs to get his ass out of bed…around the usual time, really, but now he actually needs to do that.
This morning I overslept. Woke to direct sunlight, which said I don’t know what time it is but it’s definitely after 5:30. Oboy.
That’s one of the very few times that’s happened in like eight years. Uncle Joel is sorta semi-retired. So I hustle my bewildered but agreeable boys into the Jeep. It’s Wednesday, so it’s also shit-shoveling day and I’m not gonna make a second trip. Got a little confused as to what day it is: Should have taken an extra minute and put my boots on, but that’s life. Ended up doing something in the back field you’d have considered extremely rude if I’d done it in your yard, but we won’t talk about that and anyway I had the shit-wagon right there, so…
The new book, working title You Never Completely Lose, is ticking along fairly nicely. I’m at roughly the 50% mark for word count but there’s a lot of shuffling to be done. I’m just trying to get the stories in rough without worrying about their organization or even very much about the wording. I know I can fix the wording in the first edit. What I’m worried about is good old “will anybody really want to read this shit?”
All the other books I ever wrote felt like the labors of Hercules because they were fiction, which is hard, and fitted in among all the many other things I had to do. Now I’m just telling stories about things that have actually happened and mostly I’ve got all day to do it, so at the end of a whole day’s writing I feel like I’ve just been slacking off. Because what I do when I’m writing is indistinguishable from what I do when I’m slacking off. Except that when I’m writing, I’m concentrating on it. 🙂

“Because what I do when I’m is indistinguishable from what I do when I’m slacking off. Except that when I’m , I’m concentrating on it.”
LOL. Truly a phrase worth plagiarizing. Which I will be doing. From now on. Thanks.
Cheers.

Woops, WordPress turns things enclosed by “less-than” and “more-than” invisible. Who knew? Maybe WordPress renders everything according to the html standards.
That’s weird. What is that?
In HTML markup, everything between “less-than” and “greater-than” is considered to be part of the markup.
In order to get HTML to render a “less-than”, you must type “& l t ;” (without the spaces.)
So, some, but not all, of the HTML markup language tokens will work … “less-than b greater-than” will start bold font. Etc., etc.
‘but we won’t talk about that’… but we will laugh about it.^/^

Obviously can’t speak for anybody else, but I can’t wait to read the book!
