Mission accomplished.
Sometimes it seems like getting things done around here involves one damned improvisation after another. For example: Landlady’s ridge has no water pressure, but it does contain going on a dozen chickens that need to be watered daily. So…

I haul this jug back and forth between the Secret Lair and the Big Chickenhouse. I found it in Landlady’s barn a long time ago and like all things plastic, even occasional exposure to the desert sun has been having a bad effect on it.
Yesterday evening I brought it home empty, set it on my laundry table, and a gust of wind blew it off. This morning I picked it up, wiped off the mud from the overnight rain, and found…
Oh, bother. So now the damned thing will leak water all over the Jeep’s floor until I can scrounge up something else.

RTV, caulk, or even duct tape.
Of course I duct taped it. Slows down the flood but it never really stops leaks. And have you ever tried to RTV a leak from crumbling plastic? I have.
I told you: One improvisation after another. You name it, I’ve probably tried it. Comes a time, you just need to scrounge a replacement.
Uh, ok. Didn’t mean to piss on your Cheerios, just thought I’d offer a quick solution to the immediate problem. I’ll keep my remedies to myself.
Or you need a barrel with a spigot with hose fitting and hose in the trailer, tied down of course, or a metal screw on lid can with a spout if you can quickly find either of those around you lying discarded in the desert or the barn. Most plastics are from China, are not UV stabilized even if they claim to be (experience talking) and get brittle after short exposure to sunlight and heat, are not long term use items. But you already know that. PS For future improvisations, if you have or can get the black or silver waterproof real duct tape, not a Chinese imitation, it’s more reliable and useful than the regular kind, will probably hold your brittle plastic. You know, if it will hold a cracked canoe together…with no leaks… Just saying…
A quick alternative, line your 5 gallon buckets with a trash bag, fill with water and tie the trash bag shut. No water on jeep floor.
Now there ^^^^^^ is some good thinking!
Well thank you Kentucky. Mercy is that 6 upticks? LOL Buckets and bags, works a treat.
JB weld.
I JB welded a hole in my truck’s diesel tank, as well a a hole in it’s radiator.
Got 53,000 miles out of both fixes. Sold the truck.
Leslie: What KY said. BTW, my landlord just related how one of his duck huntin’ buddies took the filled poop bag OUT of the five gallon poop bucket and said “Here, put this in your boat”. A somewhat heated discussion of the merits of rigid plastic buckets with lids ensued. It did not end well. Some people are slow learners. (It did go into another boat, though. Just not his.)
I agree!! If there are trash bags…maybe in Landlady’s barn? The Dollar Store?
Forgot to mention this excellent product I’ve used for years – look for a product called Seal-All, comes in a yellow tube with red letters. It is “resistant to gasoline, oil, paint thinner and most solvents, also water resistant immediately upon application”. You can use it on anything that is actively leaking. http://www.eclecticproducts.com/sa_faqs.htm
The 4.4 gallon jugs shortening comes in for fast food places and restaurants are really useful. If you have any friends going to places that have those maybe they could stop by and ask for some for you. Admittedly they will have to be replaced often.
