100_4496You wanna come get it, and then keep it penned up better next time?

  1. Heavens no. There’s plenty to go around and we like to share anyway. 🙂

I think I’ll put on another pot of coffee. A bit cool this morning, but already up to 10 degrees at 8AM and the sun is shining. 🙂

It really is pretty much how you look at it. And if you have a full wood pile, it looks pretty good.

  2. Joel says:

Well, the wood for the final tier in my shed is lying unsplit next to the block, and I wish I’d gotten to it yesterday because now it’s all wet. Woke up at 2:30 with a big rainstorm, outside temperature then was still in the forties and what was coming down was nowhere near snow. When I woke again this morning there was snow on the ground – still is – and though it’s nearly noon the temp’s still toying with 32o. The solar panels have only now melted off. So I’d say this time we’re getting a piece of your “polar vortex,” or whatever they’re calling it. Most of what came down was water, and now it’s ice. I had to go out for more wood and the usual morning chores, and I’m being very careful with the front steps. Sun never shines on them, this time of year.

OOh, not good. My front steps are very steep and narrow, so I don’t use them at all in the winter. I have to sweep off the snow so Laddie can get in and out there, but I’m much too chicken to try it myself. The sun shines on it in the morning, when there is sun, but it doesn’t do much good because the snow/ice is usually too thick and the sun doesn’t last long enough to melt it even if the outside temp is a little above freezing. But the snow is drifted at least a foot or two deep in most of the yard now and I don’t need to go out there anyway this time of year, so I’m content to wait until spring.

Having only one door would be a serious problem here. Just be careful!

    Relax…. It’s just global warming.

  5. Zelda says:

Sounds like time for a remodeling party – Task list: build a porch, move the door, move the steps and put a railing on them or replace the steps with a ramp that has a railing, build a firewood platform next to the front door so you don’t have to go out., put in the loft door and deck… let us know the month and week so we can all show up to help…FOMCL and ROTF
Is it possible to put firewood in multiple covered, waterproof containers on the ground with a rope so you can haul it up to the door without having to go down the steps?
Or check out whether holz hausen wood stacking would make sense for you – maybe one would fit next to your door and could be covered.
How do you keep the chicken water from freezing? You probably don’t have the power for heated chicken waterers.

  6. Joel says:

Oh, the stairs are fine and the woodshed is fine. I’m one-legged, I’m not crippled.

And I bring the chicken water in at night. At least I certainly did this night. 24 degrees at 9:30 in November, forsooth. 🙁

  7. Keith says:

The damp wood will still burn, just a little slower, so you might get some residual warmth to wake up to.

I’m right down the south of England at the moment (a deeply foreign land), and it is raining pississtantly.

  8. Joat says:

That doesn’t look like my weather, I can see some borwn on the ground. Also I’d be happy if the chicken water would only freeze at night, we have been changing it a few times a day.

I wish global warming would hurry the hell up.
