Check out my new shinies!

Yesterday a very nice couple on a traveling vacation came all the way out here just to say hi. This is a very unusual occurrence. It’s not something I encourage, this is not Desert World and the gulch is not a tourist attraction and I’ve had emails from a few people over the years whom I tried to politely dissuade. But the gentleman-who-shall-remain-nameless had been a blog reader for years, and we traded some emails prior to their vacation and he seemed relatively normal in all other respects so why not? I like meeting new people, really, moderately, just not the sort who’d look to the likes of me as a role model.

Anyway, they were a delightful couple. We went to eat at the nearby town’s one decent restaurant and had a very nice visit for a couple of hours. They drove me back to the gulch, rummaged around in their trunk for a care package they’d brought all the way from their state of origin, and it contained the sort of things people sometimes send in care packages, you know, luxury snacks and a bottle of whiskey, frankly the sort of things I look forward to receiving and – to be honest – that I had quietly hoped they’d brought.

It was going to be dark soon and they really needed to be on their way out through the labyrinth before that happened. And frankly I needed to let the boys out and get to my chicken chores. So I thanked them kindly, put the box in the Jeep and turned to say my goodbyes when they hauled out a second care package. And it did not contain the sort of things people usually send…
100_4641Holy cow. Some of this has become impossible to find around here. A brick of high-vel .22, reloadable .44 special, a box of .45, a hundred rounds* of 7.62 Commie for the AK, and primers and pistol powder! All in a brand new ammo can I can definitely find a use for. If I had doubted before that he was a regular blog reader, this would have put the doubts to rest.

So thanks again to the nice couple, and best wishes for a pleasant rest of their journey and safe return home.

*Correction: 150 rounds. I never saw rifle ammo come 30 rounds to the box.

Wow. That is princely! What wonderful people — not only very generous, but wildly thoughtful about your needs (and your jonesing). Kudos, good folks, whoever you are!

Your minions rock sir – that was very kind of them to provide those for you. Rimfire ammunition around here (at least affordable priced, though that is slowly improving) is as scarce as rockinghorse droppings.

Wow!! Your first eco-tourists, and the experience was a success. What exceptional, thoughtful people, so good to know they are out there. The things they brought were better than money.

    Good for them!

So where do I go to get my reservation for Hermit Land? 🙂
