Expanding our color palette…

It’s not real fashionable but it is smart: Introducing Ghost’s new very unghostly “I am not a coyote” collar.100_5053They didn’t have hunter orange so I settled for hot pink. If dogs had any fashion sense, he’d murder me in my sleep.

Also I’m thinking of colors for the Lair…

Stapling color swatches to the woodwork: If my ex could see me now she’d laugh herself hoarse, and I’d deserve it.

Right now I’m thinking this shade green for the walls and brown for the front woodwork. I was going to match the junipers but I think not. This green’s quite a bit more subdued than juniper green, but matching the junipers on something the size of the Lair is too much dark, too much green. I think I’d hate it.

Hmm. I’d go a bit lighter in tone, myself. Darker colors will suck the heat up more, you’ll usually have a decent amount of wood wear just from that. Plus they’ll not last as long as a lighter tone.

I vote you camo it. A nice multicam is in fashion now.

Ghost needs some sequins on that. Feel free to send some mocking his way, courtesy of me. But hey….if it wards off lead poisoniing, it ain’t a fashion faux pas.

  2. I just had my kitchen floor replaced with dark Cherry …. kind of like the second swatch that you show here. (I cannot believe we’re talking color swatches .. I’m as embarrassed as you are!) It looks great … but any little bit of light-colored dirt shows up like Neon in Reno.

    YMMV.

Lighter. Czechsix is right. Maybe a color that’s closer to the pinky-tan soil in the area (or to put that another way, just collect some of the endless dust that blows into the cabin and take that to the paint store as your sample).

Maybe slightly darker than that. But lighter than those swatches.

What czechsix said. You will get a lot of wood impact and early paint failure from those dark colors, and you probably don’t want to be doing this job over again in two years. Where I live a “guaranteed” 5 year product lasts about two years due to the high altitude sun and wind scour. A color that would blend the Lair into the background earth tones would be lighter and likely last longer as well as making you less obvious in the environment. Or maybe a light pink with lavender trim? so Ghost feels like it’s home. The Lair would be adorable and so cute painted pink. This is a new Joel. You have evolved into a recluse with an aesthetic sense. FOMCL and ROTF

Joel: Real men do too discuss color swatches ‘n um, stuff.

Wisconsin Dept of Natural Resources is going to allow pink in addition to the traditional hunter blaze orange in order to attract more women to hunting. I was all ready to write a scathing letter to the newspaper editor “So sexist politics trumps a scientifically-chosen safety color” but, it turns out pink is just as effective. Wear it proudly, Ghost! Better the small humiliation of a “girlie color” than gettin’ ventilated.

  6. Paul Bonneau says:

Brown (lighter brown though) for the base color. Then paint some junipers on it.
