Hoards of fast, stealthy giant Hessian squirrels have invaded the Lair’s grounds – I think they’re probably crack mercenary squirrels hired by the local packrats. I got one a few days ago, but he was so wily I had to resort to the expedient of shooting through one of my own screens from the darkness inside the Lair. The squirrels retaliated by dispatching two into the very same place, one of which invaded the powershed and made an unholy mess – seriously just as though it was payback. Several times yesterday I tried to sneak up on them and one time I even took a couple of shots, but they’re much better at evasion than rabbits and they’re too big for rat traps.
So…
I spent some money. I could have saved $15 on the same trap if I’d bought it on-line, but then I’d have had it late next month. By then the squirrels will have broken something valuable, at the rate they’re going.
During the same trip I spent some of your money, generous readers!
This is the very best exterior latex available locally, at a startling cost. But one of the specifications of the Lair siding project was not to scrimp on the final finish. It’ll be a subdued green with brown trim. It’s gonna be awesome. This evening I’m going over to S&L’s to borrow their scaffolding, and with that this will be a breeze.

Does Ian have any contacts that could supply some claymore mines? Y’know, for personal anti-squirrel defense…
It’s good to see the paint! I agree with the thought behind your purchasing decision. Paint is one item that it’s really best not to economize on. As expensive as it is, it’s cheaper to use good stuff than to keep redoing the job.
Try nailing a rat trap to a tree – bait with peanut butter? I’ve never tried it, but somebody on the internet said it works. Cheaper than Have-a Heart traps.
Conibear 110’s will clear up your squirrel issue post-haste, and are far cheaper than a live trap. Plus, you don’t have to deal with final disposal of a squirrel in a cage (they hates the cage, yes they does). http://www.enasco.com/product/C20109N/
Trouble with that is that, first, they’re not sold locally and I needed a short-term solution. Second, anywhere squirrels like to go dogs like to go. Ghost would certainly consider that trap worth a sniff.
Green!!!!!????? The lair will be green????? Sigh.
Well, yeah. What’s the matter with green?
Nothing’s wrong with green. It’s YOUR lair, isn’t it?
