I didn’t know there was a drum mag for M1As…

And that’s what this blog post right here is really about, but truth is I wouldn’t want to lug the gun with a fifty-round drum. I do cast lascivious eyes upon that scope though. I’ve barely had my rifle out of its case since the cataract surgery, because the aperture sights are useless to me.

I would not want to carry this behemoth around. I still remember what it was like to hump a FN C2 LMG (15 pounds plus 8 30 round mags and all spare the ammo one could lift) and this looks to be no lighter. Sure is pretty though and the scope looks great for long range work.

I “grew up” with the M14, and I still like my M1A, but any more the FNAR makes more sense. It’s easily scopable, it’s much cheaper, it shoots nice and soft, and it’s way more accurate. M1As are for kids with muscles and good eyes.

M1As are for home defense against the foul swill running this country. And a fifty round magazine is beneficial there. 100 rounds would be even better…

One of the nice things about the M14 and the M1a over the AR platform is when properly kitted out (good scope, bi-pod, trigger job and free floating the barrel) they can do remarkable things at a great distance. I will never understand the preference for 5.56mm over 7.62mm. It’s like touting how much better 9mm is over.45acp.

Don’t get me wrong i love the M1a I’m about to get me another but this time it will be the Squad.

What i really want to sat is wrong choice in mags it a great company they make great mags but if they knew history they would have know the French did the open slit mag thing in World War 1 and they killed a lot of Marines.

Gen John Perish lead the first Marines that was sent to France (yes a US Army Gen leading Marines) anyway our weapons were still being shipped overseas so we use what they gave us.

Which was crap when it came to weapons.

But when the water cooled Browning Machine Gun got there we won the war, it would take hours to explain the story.

But if you anything about World War 1 it was MUDDY AS HECK over there year round.

Mud got in the mags and they jammed after about 10 rounds with guys coming over the hills. now think you have 200 guys charging your kill zone and your gun jams not one gun but all of them the mud is in your mags in your receiver everywhere just because of your mag.

Just keep it out the mud.

At $150.00 a mag get a case for those muddy days.

    Good luck with your eyes.
