What with one thing or another I didn’t cut or stack any wood for a whole week! Penance was called for.

So yesterday I took five pallets apart, and today I cut the pieces to length and stacked them.
By the time I was done with the last load I was pretty much staggering, and it took me a minute to figure out why. Finally occurred to me that when I counted an hour with L’s animals and some stuff I got done at the reloading shack I’d been working in the sun since 6:30 without a break. Which made seven hours, which is more like unto a day’s work than this lazy old man prefers.
And now I need lunch and a bath.

So how many pallets will it take to fill that thing up?
To me, “five pallets” doesn’t sound like a lot of firewood. But when I see the addition it makes to your pile, I get a much different impression.
I’ve lost count, and wish I’d kept better records because I ask myself the same thing. So far I’ve killed between 15 and 20, and I’m maybe a little better than half-done. The woodshed is almost exactly seven feet tall at the center and the wood is packed nice and tight, so I expect to end up with an honest cord and a half or a bit more. Which, since the cabin is very small and this isn’t Minnesota, could get me all the way through a winter with no further cutting.
