Heh. There’s a reference in a novel somewhere…

…to a dog who ‘thinks he may have heard a fowling piece come down off the wall,’ and rises from his nap to go find his person in hope that a walkie is in the offing.

Little Bear can do that. His cue is the sound of an old beater revolver clattering into a worn plastic holster.

Allow me to demonstrate.

Before:

Okay, that's LB in his usual dawn spot, drowsing in the drainage ditch just north of the front yard, hoping something interesting will happen.

And now…
You'll have to take my word for this, but I shall now holster my EDC pistol in a Fobus holster. This is a sound with which LB is familiar, and of which he approves.

After:
And he immediately gets up and heads for the porch. Just in case.

🙂 He’s so predictable.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

  1. Bear says:

    “Approves”.

[Ah, he put it back in the holster. Safe to go in now.]

  2. MamaLiberty says:

And some people think they are “dumb animals.” 🙂 But even those we think are dumb are usually smart enough to understand the signals we give out… though they can pretend they don’t notice if it suits them.

Laddie understands that when I strap on my gun belt, I’m probably headed outside, at least eventually. If I put on my hat and/or a coat in season, he’s convinced of it. But he doesn’t get really excited unless he sees me take down the leash and car collar. Then he’s at the back door in a flash, very eager for a ride in the car.

So, does LB go with you when you shoot? I leave Laddie home. Have not had a dog in more than 40 years that appreciated the sound of gunfire. sigh

  3. Joel says:

No, both of the boys abhor gunfire.
