I was really hoping the lettering would come through on this, but I only had the phone with me so you’ll just have to take my word for it…

That’s a Serpa “I just f’ing shot myself” holster for a Taurus Judge. 🙂
I’d have bet money there was no such thing. Yet this is available for immediate sale at the drug store (which is the only place you can buy ammo and gun stuff) in the little town nearest where I live.

I bought some of those holsters when they first appeared. All the gun “Experts” were touting them as the greatest item since the invention of gunpowder. (Says a lot about the so called experts)
After a major failure to draw and getting my finger pinched removing the $#@!*&%$ from my belt I threw them in my box of stuff no longer useful but I’m keeping it anyway.
Finally I found a use for the contraptions. Hook them on my safe door and store guns in them. Works to reduce the clutter and I only store guns I rarely use, so removing them quickly is not a concern.
I’ve got one somebody sent me for my 1911. Agreed that a steady diet of quick draws would make me nervous because that’s just not where your index finger ought to be, I still wear it sometimes socially because it’s my nicest-looking holster.
Which sounds kind of weird, now that it’s all typed out like that…
So it is your dress holster?
Your drug store is very civilized.
If you’re more worried about a gun bouncing out of the holster on a Jeep trail than you are doing a hundred consecutive practice reps of drawing at speed and re-holstering, they make a certain amount of sense.
Yeah, I agree. Though I’m not sure the mechanism is an improvement over a top snap for positive retention, it definitely retains the pistol. Gotta tell you, though – one of my first times wearing that SERPA out in the boonies made me swear off doing so, and it was for a reason I’ve never seen anybody else complain about. A twig – just a random little juniper twig – fell down inside the holster while I was wearing it, and somehow managed to finagle itself right into the channel for that button. I tried to push the button and draw the pistol, fortunately not in a situation where I really needed to – and couldn’t! I could not get that button to depress. Thought for a minute I might need to wreck the holster to recover my pistol, but I was able to dislodge the obstruction by taking the whole thing off my belt and shaking it sharply upside-down. That was interesting.
But what really caught my eye is that Blackhawk makes one for a Taurus Judge – which probably isn’t the silliest pistol commercially available, but which I enjoy mocking anyway. I really didn’t know Taurus had sold so many.
Funny thing about those Judges, though; you never -around here, anyway – see any used ones for sale…
I saw the (disastrous) video, and I understand the neg feedback about the holster, but…here’s my story.
I have a number of pistols, and holsters.I have been shooting for 40 years, and I practice-both dry firing and live firing, including reps from the holster. My carry gun is a SIG 227.The first holster that I bought for it fit it properly, and was comfortable, but I’m a little disabled, and I walk with a cane.I would be easy-pickins for a bad guy (or two) to run up behind me and take my gun or knock me down.I worried about pistol retention ,not when I’m running which I can’t do,but any time.
I carry in a SERPA because it requires you to know what you’re doing to draw it and that gives me a little peace of mind.
I practice my draw, and I have very good trigger finger discipline and I have never pulled the trigger accidentally while drawing from holster.
If I’m ever in a quick draw self defense situation, all my planning may be for shit-I’ll let you know.
Also, when Tex had his famous ND,he had been practicing with one pistol, and then changed to practice with a completely different pistol, which may have had something to do with his fingers being in the wrong place.I’m not a celebrity, and I don’t quick draw with different pistols all day long.
I just finished reading the comments about this holster. I got to say that any decent holster is better that the “shove your gun into the waste band and shoot your self in the nuts” carry. But as with everything it takes practice to use correctly. As for the guy that shot himself even the “professionals” make mistakes. The only difference is that the pros don’t past their screw ups on the web.
That comment by Joel about not being able to draw because of a jammed holster, that is disturbing. One cure for that is a holster with a flap but then you add time to how long it takes to get into action. Always trade offs…
I’m still boggled that the Taurus Judge exists.
Before they started selling them, if you’d shown me a picture and a description, I’d have been absolutely convinced that you were joking. A five-shot .410 shotgun revolver that weighs almost four pounds unloaded is the answer to a question no one asked. Or if someone did ask, he should have sobered up and thought about it further the next morning.
