This is a very funny attack ad.

I gather it has something to do with the movie Office Space, which I’ve never successfully sat all the way through*. I didn’t catch the reference and still think the ad is pretty funny.

*There’s just something about that flick that makes me scurry for my safe space. Flashbacks, maybe.

  1. Flashbacks, indeed. That sense of knowing every single character in the film, multiple times over. (I loved it.)

The reference is a stretch, really–exactly the kind of stretch you’d expect from someone who didn’t really, fully get it in the first place. Sure, the idea of posing Her Royal Highness as a wannabe gangsta because of her travails with those pesky and persistent electrons has a certain sophomoric appeal to it, and sure, I darn well giggled along with the rest.

But it’s not the same. When first Samir and then Michael (Bolton) go all feral on the printer in the film, they’re fully and completely sympathetic. None of them have done anything to deserve the machine’s ridiculous and arbitrary quirks, and the whole episode is funny precisely because Peter gives up the inanimate machine to Michael and Samir as a parting gift, to give harmless vent to all their frustrations.

II mean, i’s not like they rolled it up in a carpet and called it Vince…
