But all did not go as planned.
Fair warning: Nothing graphic, but some people may find some of what’s below the fold a little unpleasant.

First, as I feared, my homemade killing cone was too small for the Brahmas.

So I had to do it the old-fashioned way.
The first Brahmas I killed, as you recall, were morbidly obese and the one we ate was sick-making greasy. Literally: Both boys had bad nights and I woke with a queasy stomach. I assumed it was all that greasy fat, but now I’m not so sure. The first (only, actually) one I slaughtered this morning was so obese she couldn’t have lived much longer – and she had problems with her innards…

I think that’s a liver. And the whole interior package came out in one glob, completely encased in fat. The other three were bad, this one was disgusting.
Okay. Enough. You know what? I’m not that hungry.

On this blog I talk a lot about guns, and I carry a gun everywhere and I’ve got a loaded AK on the wall and all. But that’s really just because I like guns and because self-reliance – including a constant willingness to commit acts of self-defense – is a part of my personal philosophy. The guilty truth is they’re not really all that important to a life in the boonies. If I really had to decide on one single gun, it would be a very precise .22.
Doesn’t have to be expensive. I’ve had this 22/45 with aftermarket sights since late in the last century, and it has easily killed more animals than every other weapon I own combined. Wait till they hold still with their heads in the right places, pop pop, very quickly done. I didn’t slaughter them because I ain’t eating them.

Unfortunately I forgot to check that with Ghost. He hates gunfire, and he seems to take it kind of personally when I kill things in front of him, and this incident combined those two things. I came indoors to get my gloves right after offing the last two hippies, and he was right behind me. Headed straight for his safe space, and he’s still there at this moment.
Big baby.

I really like the Browning Buckmark .22 rifle. I put a 4x scope on mine, which makes it perfect for varmint hunting. It’s very accurate, and you have that nice ability to change magazines quickly. It is very light, and the perfect size to carry in brush.
(Not mine, but it looks like it:)

Huh. I’ve never seen one of those.
It was on the cover of American Rifleman once. It was too pretty to pass up. It’s no 30-06, but you can count on a headshot on a prairie dog at 50 yards with any garden-variety LR ammunition.
Mine is a Ruger Mark II with the bull barrel. It shoots better than I can hold. My old eyes can still handle the sights. I never wanted a semi-auto .22, but this was inherited from a friend that passed away. It gets used frequently now.
Ruger Target MK IIs are fine guns. My brother has the tapered 6 7/8″ and I have a 5 1/2″ bull barrel. Extremely accurate guns. I’m not surprised to hear your pistol shoots well, glad to hear its a useful tool.
True, but lest the paeans grow too deafening let us not forget the one big drawback to being an owner of a Ruger Mark Whatever.
