Anybody else been following the Lightbringer’s Cuban lovefest?

No, me neither.

Funny thing is, I always said the embargo ought to be lifted. It makes no sense if only America is doing it, and it isn’t worth continuing just as a petulant gesture. In the end it did nothing but prop up the Castros.

But you just knew Obama would manage to make an embarrassing farce out of lifting it.

Yet another vain attempt to leave an impressive legacy, like Nixon with China.

He’s leaving a legacy, all right, just not the legacy he will be proud of. What a goofus.

This is actually one of the rare instances that I agree with what Obama is doing. But likely for different reasons than he’s actually doing them.

You see, the Castro regime is incompetent. Stories abound about crops rotting on the vine because some technocrat didn’t bother to order tomato boxes prior to harvest time, and produce rotting in the store because the store owner couldn’t get permission to sell an expired head of lettuce at reduced cost. Shortages and want, everywhere you looked.

And it was allowed because the government had a convenient excuse. They painted to US embargo as a blockade in their media, and blamed every shortage and every government incompetence on the us blockade. We unknowingly propped up their technocratic incompetence for 60 years because we gave them a convenient excuse.

That excuse no longer holds water. How long, one wonders, will the regime be able to continue before the Cuban people call BS?
