Note to self: Flashing, THEN roofing.

I’ve been up since quarter after three, dragged out to learn what that awful metallic banging was. The windstorm resumed overnight and tore all but one end of an eight-foot length of flashing off the windward side of the cabin, and is at present dragging it back and forth across the roof in a loud and obnoxious fashion. It also appears to have done some minor damage to that edge of the roofing, but I won’t know how bad that is until I get up there. I doubt the wind will moderate much but since the damage is pretty much done – fortunately the flashing can’t quite reach the solar panels – I can at least wait until things warm up a bit before hauling myself up there in the wind. I expect the flashing to be too pretzeled to be saved, though saving it is my first choice.

Bother. I love spring but hate the wind.

Our DIY lean-to shed in the back has a corregated steel roof, which in a winter wind storm freed itself and was making quite a racket. I put a piece of plywood on top, and weighted with a concrete block, quieted the racket until I got to fixing it. Pretty loud alright.
