“I’d have hurried up more.”

It’s Monday, our usual day for going into town and filling up on drinking water. What with the heat wave I had more than usual and so did D&L, and as it turned out we had to stand in line with half the ragged-ass beardos around for a chance at one of the town’s few reverse-osmosis water machines.
Normally I go through a little more than six gallons in a week, this past week it was closer to 15. And it took quite a while to get it.

I guess there is no real cost effective way to filter your own water is there? Maybe a bleg to get a Big Berkey?
Not being from the south, what genus is a cedar rat?
A cedar rat is a desert rat who lives among the junipers. If I may quote from the stillborn book You Never Completely Lose:
Desert Juniper (n): Juniperus Osteosperma – Hardy Juniper variety that thrives in alkaline soil, common at moderate to high altitude throughout the arid Southwest. Frequently classed among the cedars.
Cedar Rat (n): One of the more aromatic varieties of desert recluse. Commonly seen in company with dogs and guns. Unlovely but mostly harmless if left unmolested.
