Washing your Gadsden

The Lair is a dusty, cobwebby place, for the most part. I blame Obama.

Once in a while I look up and my eye alights upon a particularly embarrassing example of dusty and cobwebby, and then I must break out the broom, or the ladder, or whatever and remove the eyesore from my sight. If an object keeps its state of filthiness to itself, it may retain it. Don’t ask, don’t tell – That is the whole of the law.

This morning I happened to notice that it had been a really disgustingly long time since I’d taken the flags down from their place on the loft bannister…

…and given them a good wash.

But now that’s done for another year. Or…two…

With a little breeze, it takes maybe twenty minutes for them to dry. At this rate they’ll long outlive me.

I wish, in a way, that I’d not flown the “time’s up” flag – or at least not so much. It is too worn and tattered to fly now, and I can’t get a replacement. 🙁 But it was great while it lasted. Several of my neighbors watched for it, and would call me to see if I was OK if it wasn’t out on the flag pole by 8 or so. They finally quit asking.

Whattaya mean, “can’t get a replacement“, ML:

That’s great, Mark. I got mine from DullHawk many years ago. Didn’t know anyone else was making them. Unfortunately, the one I want is “out of stock” at that site. I’ll look back later to see if they have more. The “premium” one is a bit outside my budget. 🙂

ML you can get them here at Amazon.com for a reasonable cost plus if you use Claire’s Amazon link she gets a commission.

MJR, that’s the regular (historic) Gadsden. ML’s mourning her “Time’s Up” flag, also called a Dullhawk.

Remarkable! I would never have thought to look at Amazon for this. (And I never buy anything at Amazon without using Claire’s link. ) But none of those Gadsden flags are the “Time’s UP” sort, which is what I really wanted. Some of those are inexpensive enough, and I may try my hand at adding a stencil on one of them saying “Time’s Up” … we’ll see. Thanks for the link!
