Sorry, took a day off…

Didn’t feel especially well yesterday, plus it’s near the end of the month and my download limit is squeaking at me. So I just took a day to catch up with my Larry Correia reading festival.

Sunday I got that neighbor’s tractor I mentioned running, and I do have permission to do a couple of backhoe-related chores with it, so I’ll probably go get it as soon as I’m done here and get a bite to eat.

This morning so far we got an early start with some running around and bolting together the bedroom foundation timbers…

Yes I did use glue. Should have bought another bottle when I bought the carriage bolts, though; that last join doesn’t have much stick-um on it. But what could possibly go wrong, right?

I’ve been sore lately. Don’t really know why. I should be chomping at the bit to go play with that little backhoe, but just don’t feel up to being that active. Gonna do it anyway: Materials are due tomorrow, the summer is progressing whether I will that it should or not. Afternoon clouds and – what do you call it when you see rain falling but it doesn’t hit the ground? – suggest we might be looking at an early Monsoon, which will certainly complicate everything.

So sore or not, I’m off to get it in gear.

Oh! One other thing I learned only half an hour ago: I’m afraid it’s possible the Secret Lair will soon have another resident. I say that with no special enthusiasm.

Honestly, it’s been kind of nice being down to one dog. Little Bear is fairly high-maintenance as dogs go because he’s one of those dogs that just can’t hang around home without being confined, and it’s dangerous to let him roam. But we like each other and we’re used to our routine, so it works out pretty well. I’m not in the market for a second dog, but LB is no longer young and I have given some thought to what I’ll replace him with when he’s gone. I have formed a sort of mental picture of that dog.

And damned if I didn’t meet that dog this morning. He’s a stray who showed up at S&L’s place overnight. He’s a sweetheart, too. Judging from his condition he hasn’t been on his own long but he did walk a very long way; his pads are all torn and worn and he’s pretty much limping on all four feet. No collar, no tag. L’s going to post some pictures, but when does that ever work? She can’t take on a third dog, so it might be me or the shelter.

Four years from now I might be delighted. Right now really isn’t a convenient time. But I might end up doing it anyway. I’ll try to remember a camera if I go over there this afternoon; maybe you guys will have some notion as to what breed he is. I’m thinking maybe a dachshund-based mutt, but could be way off.

That rain that doesn’t reach the ground is virga. Just be sure that you don’t use verga or Spanish speakers may be offended.
