…for far too long, government has gone along, tilting the economic playing field in favor of the wealthy and powerful while putting new burdens on the backs of hard-working Americans.
Says the wealthy and powerful senator who, if a “hard-working American” ever dared come close, would have him shot.
Democrats have too often hesitated from taking on those misguided policies directly and unflinchingly — so much so that many Americans don’t know what we stand for. Not after today. Democrats will show the country that we’re the party on the side of working people —
Wait, wait. Wasn’t Barack Obama a democrat? And wasn’t he the greatest thing to happen to crony capitalism in the White House since Ulysses Grant?
and that we stand for three simple things.
Here it comes. Get ready! Superhero landing!
First, we’re going to increase people’s pay.
See: Seattle.
Second, we’re going to reduce their everyday expenses.
See: Obamacare.
And third, we’re going to provide workers with the tools they need for the 21st-century economy.
See: Detroit.
And who’s this “we?” Democrats, presumably, newly in charge of the national government they hope to wrest from the flailing republicans. Setting aside the question of where government would get the constitutional authority (Are you serious? Are you serious?) to do any such things, or how they could possibly confiscate enough of their citizens’ resources to give it a good try, has Charles Schumer never read a history book in his life? What in the name of governmental benevolence makes him think economic totalitarianism will work this time?
But with Trump and the repubs beclowning themselves five times a day on a slow day, chances are by election time the voters will have forgotten all about the last time and be ready to sign on to “a better deal.”
You know, it’s been said that democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on who’s for supper. The irony is that it’s really two wolves and hundreds of millions of sheep – voting on who’s for supper.

I think they have called it “The Great Deal,” thus invoking not one but two catastrophic Democratic programs .
I could give you dozens of links, but you’ve seen them before, with graph after graph that all show the same thing. The simple fact is that income inequality is on the rise, and has been for decades. It’s risen under both Democratic and Republican administrations. So choose your favorite political bogyman to blame, but just don’t doubt that it’s happening.
The most visible manifestation of this is the disappearing middle class. When I was young, being middle class was almost a given. All one had to do was apply for a factory job and be a halfway reliable employee, or go through a training program to become a skilled worker, or go to college to become middle management. Being middle class bought you a home in suburbia, possibly a stay-at-home wife, reasonable education for your kids, and reasonable job security.
Those days are decades behind us now.
