In Fayetteville and many places, a driver with a broken taillight can be stopped and searched by consent by officers looking for a bag of weed. Yet the same person can build an arsenal and attract no notice.
And he gives his first example as if it were a good thing.
I’ve been pulled over for not wearing a visible seatbelt, something we were all solemnly told could never happen when they started passing mandatory belt laws. “By consent” means you’ll consent or they’ll hold you there and make your life a misery until you do. And this is the writer’s positive example. The headlong degeneration of “the land of the free” into a police state is seen as a good thing by so many people who only want to see that power turned on those others that frighten them.
“They’ll keep us safe!” these pathetic people cry. But who’ll keep us safe from them?

There is no shelter from the tyrants or their cheerleaders. “Borrowing” a sailboat looks better and better every day…
In merry old England the king assigned soldiers to patrol the highways and keep them safe from thieves called highwaymen. The poorly paid soldiers adopted the highwaymen’s technique of earning spending money and became as feared as the unofficial thieves. Today we have the police setting up speed traps to take the citizens money. They don’t even have the self respect to wear a mask they do it openly. In Portland Oregon the police set up a speed trap near a school that had been closed for three years. But somehow the sign declaring the speed limit to be 20 mph during school hours was still there. Without shame or fear from the law the police gave out $200 tickets the judge levied the fine and the city kept the money.
One fine Sunday morning I was sittin on a stone wall on Alii Dr in Kona Hawaii and saw the police chief drop off three policeman who stationed themselves just 50 feet or so from the entrance to the pier. Every car that turned up to go to the pier was stopped and the driver ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt. I watched over 50 tickets given in less then an hour.
These aren’t examples of “protecting and serving” they are blatant examples of using the law to get the citizens money. It happens in every state, every county and almost every city. Your government taking your money literally at the point of a gun.
