And that’s why I prefer baking in the morning.

In the summer I bake in the morning because it’s too damned hot to bake in the afternoon.

In the winter I bake in the morning because it helps heat the damned cabin in the – morning.

My wife and I have got into the habit of making our own bread. Being lazy, of course we have a great bread maker that one simply dumps the ingredients into, turns on and then walks away. A few hours later… fresh bread. Like you we do the baking in the morning, not so much because of the extra heat or because of the afternoon heat, but because of the added bonus of the smell of freshly made bread in the morning…

I thought I’d found the answer to life, the universe and everything when somebody introduced me to bread machines. This was ten years ago when I was trying to get baking right, and here was this magic machine that did it all for you! It could only run mid-day when there was juice to run it – but that’s okay, it comes with a timer! Excelsior! And best of all people were always buying but not using them, so they were often available super cheap at the thrift store.

Turns out none of the ones we found were good for twice-weekly use, though. We went through three in less than a year before giving up. But while they worked they were great.
